Wild Welsh Woman meets Three Wine Men

Where to start…..besides the obvious glugging, slugging, slurping of an afternoon, as you do!! Its Saturday, but no ordinary Saturday, a wknd which started full of Friday frolicks; friends food and FUN in Cardiff’s MotorPoint Arena.

(which resulted in a swift prescription of paracetamol at 4am excecuted with stealth like ninja movement, so not to wake up “I told you so” gloating hubby).

Anyway, Saturday….I had big expectations for Saturday after all we’re talking @threewinemen event in the big Welsh smoke, AKA Cardiff:

the tenth largest city in the U.K, a veritable mecca for commercial, cultural and sporting wealth (apparently MTV’s answer to Valley hobbits stuck in the valleys “The Valleys” another blog!!! don’t get me started)
So I was nervous of soughts, expecting the unexpected….eager to learn, but thinking I knew it all!! We were meeted and greeted with a wonderfully warm reception of staff in the Park Thistle Hotel, who made myself and Mr B feel instantly relaxed, and less anxious. As soon as we entered the aromas of wine & cheese were intoxicating. We started off on fizz and finished with a bang, it was a truely life enhancing experience, especially because I met the very charasmatic, Tim Atkin, Oz Clarke and Jolly Olly but more so because I made new friends, wine buddys who not only talk but walk the walk (unless we’re obviously too inebriated).

The standard of wines to consume at ones leisure was rather good, actually bloody marvelous! The exhibitors were wonderfull, a real diverse array spanning the continents. Everyone was so happy to share their knowledge, you felt at ease (especially moi) as lets face it yes I’m a wine lover but certainly no expert. Not a wine snob insight!! It was an event where you never felt pressure to buy there and then on the spot, more of a come back later and taste some more, and again!!! Never thought I’d be a creature of restraint, thank goodness for spittoons (never thought i’d say that either).

I was also particularly looking forward to a masterclass with Tim Atkin and Ultracomida. It was a match made in heaven, cheese and wine tasting with the a passion. Even my ” I don’t eat cheese” husband was pleasantly surprised. It certainly did not disappoint. I highly reccommend you visit their Spanish artisan deli in Narberth and Aberystwyth…..the food is sublime (especially Padron Peppers) and  the wine devine!!

It really has been a day of communion, a celebration of tastes I love, which I have been able to share with like minded souls and a day where in the hubub of day to day life you can actually walk into a room full of strangers and find solace, genuine warmth. Yes, you may think it’s because I was experiencing a slight flush after a few samlpes, but NO! its because sometimes we all need light relief from the daily 9 to 5. Three Wine Men is an event which I hope will return (if posible) bigger and better next year! A great day in the BEST of company.Thankyou / Diolch yn Fawr @threewinemen  your tips will be put to good taste!!! see you next year.
